Hi Friends!
Breakfast is probably my favorite meal of the day. Well, I love all meals and snacks throughout the day to be honest… but I get the most excited over a great breakfast! With that said, I’m also a creature of habit. I can eat the exact same breakfast rountinley every single morning and never get sick of it. (I also believe that eating the same meals repeatedly is really healthy for you. Your body knows what it’s receiving. Knows how to process and digest it efficiently. And moves on. This is not science talking as far as I know of, just me sharing my thoughts).
Anywho – here are my go-to breakfasts that you will catch me eating every morning. (But seriously, just ask Drew). I will switch it up every few days, weeks or months, but I don’t stray away from these unless I’m out brunching (which, I don’t do often). So basically I go through phases. For a few days or weeks I’ll drink the same shake every morning. Then if I feel like switching it up, I’ll move to pancakes for a few days, etc. And since I’m such a breakfast lover, if I don’t eat one of these for breakfast, I’ll have it for a snack after breakfast or part of my lunch. So I’ll eat multiple of the below in the same day. I eat multiple meals throughout the day, every few hours 🙂
you will learn: I love adding flaxseed, honey, cinnamon, raw cacao and pink himalayan salt to tons of things.
PROTEIN PANCAKES
I’ve already shared this recipe before in a previous post that you can find here. It’s few ingredients and packed with nutrients that will keep you plenty full until your next meal. It’s so quick & easy to whip up in a hurry, but if you want to shave some time off your mornings before work, you can absolutely prep the batter the night before, or just double the quantity, and store in your fridge to just put right on the pan in the am a few mornings in a row. I also have gone ahead and made a full batch of pancakes and just store the extras in the fridge until the next day and microwave them. Still yummy. So you’ve got options to get out the door quicker!
TRADER JOE’S HEART HEALTHY WHOLE GRAIN BLUEBERRY OATMEAL
This my go-to breakfast on the go. If I don’t eat it for breakfast, I absolutely eat it as a snack later in the day.
RAW CACAO POWDER SMOOTHIE
I’ve recently talked about my love for raw cacao powder. It is said to be the highest source of antioxidants & magnesium. It is the highest plant-based source of iron, has 40 times the amount of antioxidants than blueberries, full of magnesium, mood booster, has more calcium than cow’s milk and even has MORE benefits. I’ve been obsessed with it for awhile now. You can add it to anything obviously, a sprinkle here… a sprinkle there. It’s fairy dust. JK, but you get how much I love it now. I add it to my smoothies. Here is the smoothie I put it in:
-1 cup frozen blueberries
-1 banana
-1.5 tsp of almond butter
-a few shakes of pink himalayan salt
-2 tbs of raw cacao powder
-about 1.5 cups of unsweetened coconut milk
-ice to desired consistency
*you can also freeze the bananas and skip out on the ice.
PINK SHAKE
I’ve also shared the recipe to this smoothie before. You can find it here.
CREAMY QUINOA
INGREDIENTS:
-1 cup quinoa
-pinch of salt
-1.5 cups water
-2 tbsp flaxseed meal
-1 cup fat-free evaporated milk
-4 teaspoons of honey
-1 tsp vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS:
-combine the quinoa, salt & water in a pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer, cover & cook for 10 minutes.
-stir in evaporated milk, flaxseed meal & 2 tsp of honey. Cook & stir until the milk is mostly absorbed to a thickness of your liking. (about 4-6 minutes)
-remove from heat & stir in vanilla extract.
-top each serving with 1/2 tsp of honey and nuts of your choosing.
AVOCADO + (EGGS)
Like you’ve gathered, I go through phases with what I eat in the morning. But something I eat every single day is a whole avocado. I don’t need to tell you it’s “the good kind of fat” and has more potassium than bananas, loaded with fiber, and lowers cholesterol. If I don’t eat one with scrambled eggs for breakfast, then I will just cut up a whole avocado sprinkle it with salt & pepper and eat it as a snack at some point in the day.
YOGURT + BERRIES
Another great, easy, healthy, super quick breakfast to throw together. I love vanilla flavored yogurt, but obviously plain, greek or whatever flavor you like best is what matters. Throw some in a bowl. Throw some fresh strawberries, blueberries & raspberries on top. Sprinkle with cinnamon (I add cinnamon to everything). Drizzle honey on top (I drizzle honey on absolutely everything). Voila!
Recapping 3 ingredients listed for smoothies that you may not be super familiar with:
- pink himalayan salt: basically this one ingredient claims to create lots of balance in your body. Electrolyte balance & ph balance, along with other benefits.
- raw cacao powder: I know I went into a quick detailed rant on some of the main claims to fame of this product above. It is an excellent source of the good kinds of fats, vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein & natural carbs. It impresses me more every time I research it.
- flaxseed: You can buy it ground or whole. It is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, high in antioxidants, lowers cholesterol, high in fiber, supports digestive health & more.
Breakfast is served.
Hope these easy & healthy ideas work for you as well!
xoxo
