Before I share my Boston video with y’all, I want to share something else with you. Let’s call it a “day in the life” if you will, of all the unpredictability we deal with on a daily basis. Because in the video you will see all the beautiful places we (or I) visited and might think we skipped around town holding hands, by each other’s side 24/7 –and that wasn’t the case.
WE CAN START WITH THE OBVIOUS – –
It’s the beginning of week 3 in the NFL and we aren’t on a team yet. Are we discouraged? No. Do we still have total faith everything will work out? Yes. Is it fun to always deal with uncertainty? No. Do we believe Drew will be on a roster this year? Yes.
There are only 32 positions in the world for Drew’s job. 32. Teams don’t have back-up punters on the roster, they have one. So, we basically have to wait for someone to get injured or for someone to consistently perform poorly. I don’t wish an injury on anyone after the injury Drew went through all last year. You have no idea what the player has to go through with an injury–healing, rehab, PT, etc. I always hope for punters safety. Every player’s safety for that matter.
So, what are we doing? Playing the waiting game to see when he will be somewhere and where that will be.
Glad we got out of the way!
BACK TO OUR NEW ENGLAND TRIP
We were in Connecticut early Sunday afternoon about to continue on with the rest of the trip we had planned — when Drew’s phone got blown up with texts and phone calls that the Detroit Lions punter went down. Long story short, we arrive in Boston (our next stop on our trip) to find out Drew is leaving for Detroit 5am the next morning. Drew and 5 other guys were being brought in for a workout to see who will fill in for a couple weeks until their regular punter comes back from an injury.
Drew is amazing and always so well-prepared for anything to happen in football. He knows how it works. He already had his cleats packed with him on our vacation — just in case this would happen. So, on Monday Drew was on a 7am flight out of Boston to Detroit with no clue if he was coming back to Boston or staying in Detroit for a few weeks. What did I do? I went with the flow. We were supposed to go to New Hampshire that day, but obviously that part of the trip ended up being canceled. So, I roamed Boston for a day frolicking around by myself and had the best time. I of course had Drew on my mind constantly wondering if he was coming back, if I was going to fly home, if I would go there… who knew. You can’t play the “what if game”, you just go with the flow and have the utmost confidence that whatever is meant to be will be. If this temporary punting job was the right thing for both of us in our lives right now, he would have gotten it. But, he didn’t. I won’t go into details why, but he did a great job and I couldn’t be more proud of him.
He landed back in Boston around midnight and we thoroughly enjoyed our next day that we had together before we flew to Atlanta.
See what I mean by our life is crazy and so up in the air? Our plans change in a split second if we make plans.
All I can tell you is we are on the right path and loving being with each other 24/7. Something will come our way again. And when it’s right, it will all workout the way it should 🙂
xoxo
