Happy National Cleanse Your Skin Week! (I know, I didn’t know this was a thing either until I stumbled upon it).
Anyhow, I figured this would be a perfect way for me to share my face washing routines and products I use.
Let me preface this with I do not have perfect skin. (As I’m sure you can see in the above make-up-less selfie.) One thing I will certainly always be rocking for the rest of my life are smile lines! (Woot Woot)! Hey, I’m a huge smile-er – – is that a word? Anyway, I can’t help it. But I’ve certainly done my research over the years, along with personal trial and error, and here is what I’ve come up with.
4 BIG FACTORS I’VE PERSONALLY LEARNED THAT AFFECT YOUR SKIN
-
Consistency
I’ve learned consistency is everything. Stay on top of your routines & don’t miss a wash/step. (Yes, even if you are exhausted at night, make sure you wash your face). It’s the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning (after brushing my teeth) and the last thing I do before going to bed. I’ll also cleanse my face with water after a workout.
-
Drink Plenty of Water
I am someone who drinks tons & tons of water all day every day. (Read my Hydration is Key). Water is also great for your skin.
-
Wear Sunscreen daily (even if you don’t think you’ll be outside)
My daytime moisturizer also has an SPF in it. If you’re planning on doing activities outside, of course load up on a sunscreen in addition. But, wearing a daytime moisturizer that also has SPF is great for you.
-
Sleep
I don’t know about y’all, but if I don’t get enough sleep, it shows.
Products I use
-
Skin Script Raspberry Redefining Cleanser
This stuff is AMAZING! It smells like fresh raspberries, no exaggeration. Also, they don’t do animal testing. They have products safe for vegans, pregnant women, gluten-free, soy-free, you name it… they have it for you. I use this morning and night. It’s gentle enough to use often, yet strong and effective. As if I couldn’t love them enough, guess where they’re located!? Arizona!
-
Franklin and Whitman Masks & Serums
Can we just talk about this company for a minute? They’re fabulous. They donate 5% of every purchase to Dog Rescue Organizations all over the country. This company is based in Pennsylvania and all of their products are handcrafted, all natural, plant based, preservative free & cruelty free. What I use: Oak Lane Face Mask (made w/raw cacao, turmeric, and activated charcoal), Spruce Hill Face Mask (made w/matcha green tea, pomegranate, and activated charcoal), and Walnut Hill Face Serum (made w/argan oil, rosehip seed oil, and pomegranate seed oil). The masks come in a powder form to ensure no preservatives or chemicals. You just add water each time you use.
-
Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner
I got recommended this toner a few years back from an aesthetician at my favorite spa in Arizona and have never looked back. This toner is all natural and helps maintain clear, balanced skin without over drying. I do this step after I cleanse my face, before I put on moisturizers.
-
Rodan + Fields Moisturizers
Living in the desert, my skin gets dry very easily. I have yet to find a moisturizer that is as thick as R+F and stays on as long as theirs does. I swear my face doesn’t get dry skin, even in the desert, since using this product. What I use: AM Triple Defense Moisturizer (with SPF 30), PM Restorative Cream, and eye cream.
Hope all this info helps you!
xoxo
