ENTHUSIASM
Happy Monday!
I wanted to share a quote that struck me as a perfect #MotivationMonday kick in the butt!
“Flaming enthusiasm, backed by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success.”
-Dale Carnegie
It doesn’t matter what line of work you are in, the common denominator for success is most certainly enthusiasm. Enthusiasm for what you are currently working on, enthusiasm for life…enthusiasm, enthusiasm, enthusiasm.
I would like to share a story with you.
When I was interviewing for a job at NBC Sports I remember they asked me if I had x skill set. I answered honestly and said, “No. But I am a quick learner, eager to learn, and very confident in the rest of my skills.” He picked up on my enthusiasm throughout the entire interview, along with my recs, and experience. I will never forget what he told me at the end of our meeting.
“You can teach lots of things, but enthusiasm and passion cannot be taught.”
My enthusiasm made an impression on him. I got the job.
That was a big epiphany moment for me. He was right. Enthusiasm and passion cannot be taught. You either have it or you don’t. If you have it, run with it, and always remain genuine along the way.
If you think you aren’t passionate about anything, you are wrong. Everyone is passionate about something. Just go out there and find it.
Of course, enthusiasm was not the sole reason I earned the job. I had worked for years at NBC prior so I had great experience. However, that’s what left him with the lasting impression of me.
